Random thoughts:

  1. My fiftieth birthday is next Monday and I just got a letter today that I can join AARP.  What do I think of that?  I’m glad you asked.  I will never retire.  I hope that answer’s any questions.
  2. Also concerning my turning 50.  Contrary to what some have experienced I can do everything I could do when I was 20. (It just takes me a little longer to recover.)
  3. Why was it when I was a teenager I wanted to stay up all night and now I look forward to going to bed after the 10:00PM news?
  4. Enough about age.  One of the unique Christmas gifts I received was a couple of cans of B&M brown bread.  This brought back a lot of memories of hot dogs, B&M beans, and brown bread for dinner.  (If you didn’t grow up in New England you wouldn’t understand.  It kind of goes along with a fluffernutter and Zarex.)
  5. It’s quite amazing how the body adapts to changes in weather.  I used to roast during the summer when we first moved to Arkansas and thought the winter was not too bad.  Now the summer isn’t as bad and at any temperature below 40 I’m feeling a little cold.
  6. Why is the Minnesota Senate race between Franken and Coleman even that close?  On second thought Jesse Ventura was elected governor.
  7. More government spending will not “jumpstart” the economy.  All you have to do is read any decent book on the depression and FDR’s failed policies to understand that. (I can recommend a good one if you want to know.)
  8.  Why have I continued a 28 year cycle of cheering for the Vikings/not cheering/cheering/not cheering………..  I must be a glutton for punishment.
  9. I want to take a pair of clippers and shave my head.  When my hair gets a little long I feel like I have a comb over.  A slight over reaction I’m sure.
  10. While wrestling around with my grandkids Samuel began to hit me on the head with a hard plastic hammer and then jammed a plastic shotgun in my right ear.  Two year olds play rough.
  11. I’m really excited for 2009 not only personally but for our church.
  12. Why do so many of the newscasters on Fox News seem like they are yelling?
  13. I’m so glad I don’t wear ties anymore.
  14. It’s so exciting to see kids you ministered to now grown up and doing awesome things for God.
  15. Susan is still a party animal.  She stayed up until 4AM on New Years Eve!

  1. You always make me laugh, but you have especially done it lately. You’re not getting older, you’re getting better. (And so am I. Remember that I said this when it’s my 50th birthday, okay?) I think you have inspired me to write random thoughts too, maybe.

  2. Plastic hammer and shotgun… priceless.

If you’re looking for someone to shave your head, choose me. I want to give you a mohawk first.

To Pastor Susan: Older is better. I think it’s great to admit getting older AND better. You both look great for your age, and the best is yet to come. Older, better, wiser, funnier, smarter….

  3. Ha! It was pretty funny to see Samuel do that……….we do have to reign him in quite often when he is playing……he doesn’t realize that he is so rough.

I think the same thing every year regarding the Vikings……why? why? why? And yet still every year I think that “This will be their year” and yet another year of disappointment.

I do agree with Jake. You 2 do look good for your age!! :)

  4. You 2 look good for ANY age. I would rethink the shaved head thing. You need the hair for protection against plastic hammers, etc…unless you wear a helmet. If you do shave it do the mohawk and paint it purple…just for laughs and a few pictures.

  5. Random is as ramdom does!
    1. My 58th birthday is this Sunday and I feel like life is just getting started! (Wasn’t Moses 80 when he led the Children of Israel out of Egypt?)
    2. No matter how many discounts, good deals and coupons AARP offers me I won’t retire NOR join them!
    3. To your Vikings I must point out - Detroit Lions 0&16 - ugh!
    4. I shaved my head a few years ago - just cuz - Mackey told me not to do it again!
    5. I’m excited for ‘09, too! Every change God makes is GOOD!!!
    6. All the young people in our church so hungry for God is a sight to behold!
    7. And to my physical body I say, “you are the redeemed of the Lord and the healed of the Lord, now act like it, in Jesus’ Name!”
    8. Happy Bday, Pastor!

  6. kevin…i have to admit that I teared up on number #14 I say this with a full heart “thank you for following God and paving the way you are a true friend and leader”!

  7. We don’t want you to retire either! However, I disagree with not taking advantage of discounts. If they are foolish enough to give a “senior” discount to folks who are clearly not “senior,” then grab it with both hands!

  8. Ixnay on the aarp, pleaseay! Their agenda is too far left for me to join and contribute to their delinquency! Hey, Stac! - I finally made it to Ft. Smith Aldi’s - I’m thinking I will get the discounts there! I’m thinking it is time for some more games - I’ll bring some eats (no beans, though).
